cIt's only natural to see specific characters from the Star Wars universe using their favorite lightsaber style. We picture Mace Windu's purple lightsaber or Darth Maul's double-bladed crimson lightsaber. Because they used various sabers at different times, this became a multiple-choice task when dealing with other people. You can imagine Luke Skywalker using his traditional blue lightsaber or the green blade he developed later in his Jedi Knight career if you'd like. The history and development of Darth Revan's lightsaber are complicated by the fact that it has undergone several changes throughout his life.
What Color Was Revan's Lightsaber?
Jedi Knight Revan, also known as Darth Revan when he was a Sith Lord, served the galaxy as both a hero and an evil. In accordance with his changing allegiances and personal growth, Revan used a variety of sabers at various points during his turbulent existence. Revan's lightsaber colors, which ranged from blue to red, green, and purple, were strikingly varied and represented the conflict he was fighting, both inside his galaxy and in the galaxy around it. Here is a quick synopsis of this intriguing character from Star Wars mythos and the colors of his lightsaber.
As a Jedi: Revan's Blue Lightsaber
The story of the man who would go on to become well-known as Darth Revan started when he was born in the Old Republic Era, in 3994 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). During his apprentice days, he demonstrated remarkable promise as a Padawan under Jedi Master Kreia (later Darth Traya).
Revan and the Jedi Council disagreed over the Mandalorian Wars after Revan rose to the rank of Jedi Knight. Revan had other ideals and started the Revanchist campaign against the Mandalorian's, although the Order wanted to avoid getting involved in the fight. Here, he and his companion, Jedi Knight Malak, succeeded in defeating Mandalore the Ultimate.
Revan's primary saber at the time was a blue lightsaber with a single blade and an alloy metal hilt. According to some accounts, he also symbolized his defiance of the Jedi Council's rules by wielding a purple lightsaber.
As a Sith: Revan's Red Lightsaber
Malak and Revan were influenced by Sith Emperor Vitiate, who intended to exploit the mind-controlled pair for his sinister ends. Malak and Revan were able to break free from Vitiate's grip but not from the Dark Side's. In order to topple and replace the Galactic Republic, Revan—now Darth Revan—founded the Sith Empire. Additionally, he gave his lightsaber the crimson blade associated with the Sith by substituting a scarlet crystal for the blue kyber crystal in its hilt.
Due in large part to Darth Malak's treachery, Darth Revan's attempts to halt the ensuing Jedi Civil War ultimately failed, and he was rendered unconscious following combat with a Jedi strike force under the command of Bastila Shan. A rebellious Malak shattered Darth Revan's lightsaber in the process. Revan's path began with his descent into the Dark Side and eventual defeat by the Republic and the Jedi Order. What started with Jedi Revan's lightsaber's recognizable blue and changed into the Sith's beacon of crimson would change much more.
As a Jedi Again: Revan's Green Lightsaber
The Jedi Council erased Darth Revan's memories of his Sith background using a memory wipe, and he was given a new identity as a devoted Republic soldier. Revan made a new lightsaber with a blue blade, which the Jedi preferred, oblivious to his recent dalliance with the Dark Side.
He soon met up with his old friend Darth Malak, who had assumed leadership of the Sith Empire while Revan was away, accompanied by Bastila and other friends. In a lightsaber combat, Revan ultimately prevailed against Darth Malak. Revan then changed his lightsaber once more, choosing to use a green one this time.
Memories Resurface: Revan's Purple Lightsaber
Slowly but surely, Revan's sinister recollections of his Sith background came flooding back. Sith Emperor Vitiate was another facet of his history that came back to haunt him. After trying to kill Vitiate, Revan was taken prisoner and placed in stasis, which locked the body but freed the mind for three hundred years. During that time, he fought the Sith Emperor using his mental abilities.
Despite his eventual release, Revan's mental state was severely damaged by his centuries-long imprisonment (not surprisingly!). As a final tribute to his ordeal, Revan's lightsaber's hue changed to violet (or purple). Revan's purple lightsaber would be used in combat against the Imperial soldiers under Darth Malgus.
It makes sense that Revan would eventually wield a purple lightsaber near the end of his voyage, which saw him alternate between the Light and Dark sides of the Force. Because those who wield this blade endure and demonstrate a balance between the two significant parts of the Force, it is symbolic of the delicate balance between the Light and Dark sides.
