Kylo Ren Lightsaber

Kylo Ren Lightsaber

All You Need To Know About The Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber

Numerous weapon types that employ light to deal harm can be found throughout the Star Wars Saga. Of these, the lightsaber is arguably the most well-known. Fans have been talking a lot about Kylo Ren's unique crossguard lightsaber in this regard. With so much screen time, Kylo Ren's unique crossguard lightsaber has produced some theatrical moments.

There is something that makes Kylo Ren's lightsaber unique. The crossguard lightsaber used by Kylo Ren is a centuries-old weapon with roots in the Malachor Great Scourge. The focusing crystal activators that split the lightsaber's plasma stream into three directions are the source of the crossguard blades, also called quillons.

The crossguard blades emerge when the primary blade ignites. The lightsaber is fueled by a defective kyber crystal, which causes it to emit an oddly "ragged" blade.

In 28 ABY, Ren transformed the weapon's blue blade to red after destroying the Jedi Temple and giving in to the evil side. Thus, Kylo Ren embellished the altered lightsaber with an antique-inspired crossguard hilt. Kylo's lightsaber is an excellent metaphor for his character.

Kylo Ren-Star Wars Fictional Character

Kylo Ren is a popular character in the Star Wars Saga's third trilogy because of his skill with the lightsaber. Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa, became Kylo Ren after giving in to the dark side of the Force. He converts to the evil side of force and becomes Supreme Leader Snoke's apprentice.

He used to be a Jedi apprentice but then joined the dark side. He later became the Supreme Leader of the First Order after being part of the Knights of Ren.

To exact revenge for the past, Kylo killed his father and his master, and Snoke was replaced as Supreme Leader. However, the loss of his father, his connection to the mysterious Rey, and the pull of his goodness persisted to haunt him. Eventually, all three would help Ben Solo find his way back to the light.

The popularity of Lightsaber of Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren’s Crossguard Lightsaber vs. Traditional Lightsabers

His lightsaber was his constant companion during his years as a dark-side servant. Though they differ in color, lightsabers all share the same fundamental characteristics. One characteristic sets Kylo Ren's lightsaber apart from the others. It looks like Kylo Ren's lightsaber has an extra beam crossguard.

His lightsaber, powered by a malfunctioning kyber crystal, generates an atypically "ragged" blade in contrast to other lightsabers. The crystal's instability is why quillons and crossguard blades are used on lightsabers. They help control the plasma blade and prevent accidents. In combat, Ren's hand is similarly shielded by the crossguard blades.

Every lightsaber produces a constant beam. But in case you missed it, Kylo Ren's lightsaber crackles. It follows that his lightsaber could be more stable. Even though Kylo Ren might use those extra beams to assault his opponents, he could get hurt if he makes a single mistake with his arm.

These could make controlling Kylo's lightsaber more challenging than using a regular lightsaber. Including two extra beams makes Kylo Ren's lightsaber more difficult to handle.

Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber

As Supreme Leader of the First Order and Master of the Knights of Ren, Kylo Ren used a crossguard lightsaber. While undergoing Jedi Padawan training under his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, Ren constructed the lightsaber. After destroying the Jedi Temple and turning to the dark side in 28 ABY, Ren updated the weapon to include a red blade. The altered lightsaber's crossguard hilt was fashioned after an antiquated pattern from the Great Scourge of Malachor.

It required lateral vents on both sides of the handle to direct the excess heat produced by the fractured Kyber crystal. Rather than viewing his lightsaber blade's instability as a drawback, Kylo Ren has valued it precisely because of it. His lightsaber was always by his side when he was a member of the evil side of the force. He put down his lightsaber when he decided to adopt his birth name, Ben Solo, and rejoin the Jedi Order.

  • Hilt shape: Straight and cylindrical, providing a classic and ergonomic design that is easy to grip and handle during combat.
  • Hilt type: Two-piece lightsaber that is demountable and might be helpful for tactical or covert objectives.
  • Adjustable blade: This feature suggests that the length of the blade can be modified, offering versatility in combat situations.
  • Protective measures: The lightsaber has a hefty ring-shaped hand guard, which provides additional protection during duels.
  • Modifications: An extendable hand guard that can rotate around the central handle and detachable emitters fastened to the hand guard indicate a highly adjustable weapon.

Construction Information

  • Creator: Ben Solo, who after adopts the guise of Kylo Ren, is the head of the Knights of Ren and a prominent First Order member.
  • Model: Both the Crossguard and traditional-hilt lightsabers are available. A distinguishing aspect of the design is the crossguard, which has extra blades or quillons extending from the hilt to create a distinctive shape.
  • Type: Single blade, which is the standard configuration for most lightsabers.
  • Culture: connected to both the Jedi and Sith orders, symbolizing Ben Solo's/Kylo Ren's internal struggle as he walks the thin line between the light and dark parts of the Force.

  • Knights of Ren: A group of dark-side Force users, Kylo Ren is the leader. The lightsaber would symbolize his leadership and power within this group.

The Origin of Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber

Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber Hilt

The crossguard on Ren's lightsaber isn't particularly distinctive. The design, which features two secondary blades (quillons) that emerge from the upper half of the hilt at a ninety-degree angle, was created thousands of years before he was born.

The crossguard lightsaber was first seen during the Great Scourge of Malachor. This was a well-known battle between the Sith Empire and the Jedi Order. In this battle, all the fighters were killed. Thousands of years later, their frozen bodies and worn-out crossguard lightsaber were discovered during an operation under the direction of Ahsoka Tano Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus.

Ren's lightsaber had contemporary parts. Though its appearance was hastily constructed and shaky, Ren could still mend his lightsaber and eventually liked its unstable and explosive nature. Ren's lightsaber looked burnt and black because the kyber crystal was damaged and unstable when it was first used. There were no vents to release the excess energy.

Moreover, the lightsaber's well-defined internal mechanisms allowed easy maintenance and adjustments. Ren's crossguard lightsaber represents both his raw and uncontrolled Force might and his struggle to suppress the light side of the Force he carries.

Construction of Ren’s lightsaber

Ben Solo's Jedi lightsaber had a blue plasma blade at first. Kylo Ren changed his Jedi lightsaber to a Sith lightsaber with a red blade to match his evil Force powers.

The lightsaber's design changed from a regular hilt to a crossguard when quillon emitters were added. The vents on the hilt released extra heat from the crystal, making the crossguard lightsaber look jagged and wobbly. His lightsaber sounds different from others due to the exhausts, presumably meant to resemble the crossguard.

He needed the exhausts because his lightsaber would be unmanageable without them. It's possible that the lightsaber broke or sustained other damage.

After the main blade, the exhaust beams caught fire. It was trying to use excess energy to subdue the power uprising. He could not perfect the bleeding process because he was using a broken crystal.

His unsteady lightsaber was a physical representation of his character and a metaphor. He needed guidance and was confused and insecure.

Power source for the Ren’s lightsaber

The power source of a lightsaber is frequently shaped like a crystal. Several planets in the Star Wars galaxy contain these scarce crystals. They make excellent lightsaber power sources because of their force sensitivity. Because these crystals are energy-responsive, directing one's energy toward them may have an effect.

Ben Solo charged his lightsaber with the Kyber crystal, just like he did with all the other Jedi lightsabers. Since Kylo Ren used a red Kyber crystal, the beams from his lightsaber are naturally red. Kylo Ren made use of a broken Kyber stone.

A datum power cell was also incorporated within the grip as a backup power source. The blade was ignited by a sliding activation mechanism at the hilt's top.

Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber Crystal’s Origin

The source of the crystal in Kylo Ren's lightsaber is a mystery. Some claim that the crystal he used belonged to Anakin Skywalker, also known as Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader. Kylo Ren's crystal is fractured regardless of its source, making the bleeding process challenging.

Design of Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber

The crossguard lightsaber was an ancient design that originated under the rule of Darth Atrius, a Sith Lord who carried two of these lightsabers. One of the changes Kylo Ren made to his lightsaber was to the crossguard. After all, it's not a crossguard. Those are exhausts. Not being able to replicate his lightsaber precisely, Kylo Ren added the exhausts.

The kyber crystal of the lightsaber was damaged during the bleeding process, rendering it unstable and faulty. This limited the lateral vents, intended to stop the shattered kyber crystal from overcharging. When the primary blade of the lightsaber was ignited, the red-yellow plasma stream split into three tracks by the activators of the focusing crystal, forming the quillons.

There was a slight alteration to Kylo Ren's lightsaber, but it was hardly noticeable. The upper section of the exhausts has been modified. In the original design, the exhaust is shaped like a tiny pipe with no openings at the top. The refurbishment has left the upper portions without a cover. This was done to ensure that in the event of a lightsaber collision, the exhaust's beam would be the only part affected, not the cover, protecting the blade from apparent harm.

History

Ben Solo’s Life As A Jedi

Ben Solo’s lightsaber

Ben Solo began Jedi training in 15 ABY under his uncle Luke Skywalker's guidance. Between 15 and 19 ABY, Padawan Solo constructed his lightsaber, following the Jedi Order's customs that Luke Skywalker attempted to restore following the Great Jedi Purge. After gaining his grandfather's link to the Force, Solo rose to the rank of "prize pupil" at his uncle's Jedi temple, surpassing the combined might of his fellow trainees despite Luke Skywalker's insistence that they were all equal in the ways of the Force. Voe, a Jedi trainee, attempted but could never match Solo's skills with a lightsaber and his Force might.

Solo used his lightsaber to protect himself while he and Skywalker roamed the galaxy. In 19 ABY, Solo engaged in combat with the Knights of Ren at a desolate Jedi outpost on Elphrona.

A new mission

On the night of the destruction of Skywalker's Jedi temple in 28 ABY, Solo was sleeping in his hut with his calligraphy and lightsaber resting on a table near his bed. Skywalker utilized the Force to delve into Ben Solo's mind after detecting the shadow of the dark side in his nephew. He saw images of a future in which Ben Solo would usher in a galactic era of death and destruction. Sensing that his life was in danger, Solo used telekinesis to bring his lightsaber to bear on his uncle.

Solo recognized Skywalker's superior Force proficiency and used his lightsaber to deflect Skywalker's blow. Still, in a desperate attempt to end the battle before Skywalker can beat him, Solo destroys the cabin with his lightsaber. Ben Solo abandoned Skywalker in the ruins of his room, even though Skywalker was only slightly unconscious. Han Solo cried out and, dejected, swung his still-lit lightsaber. The temple was destroyed, and all of the other students perished when a massive storm formed overhead.

Three novice Jedi, Tai, Voe, and Hennix, returned from an off-world deployment to face Solo. The three Padawans each carried a saber, but Ben Solo put his on his belt and used his Force abilities to defeat his opponents instead. Using Tai's lightsaber and his own, Solo killed the Knights of Ren captain and eventually took his seat. Of the three trainees that Solo was hunting, Voe was the only one Solo personally killed with Ren's lightsaber.

Solo leaves the Jedi path and takes over as the new leader of the Knights of Ren. The fallen Jedi, now known as "Kylo Ren," accepted his new identity as the "Jedi Killer," along with his roles as the dark apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke, a First Order warlord, and the new master of the Knights of Ren.

Kylo Ren’s Life As A Sith

Ren's true dark side mentor was Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith and Sith Master of his grandfather, who was found in the Sith world of Exegol in the hidden lands. Meanwhile, Snoke was a Strand-Cast who served as Sidious' stand-in for both training and First Order governance.

Through Snoke's instruction, Ren was able to focus his wrath into a focused rage, drawing strength from the Force, but he was unable to control his emotions. The Force sent Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa's forms into Ren's vision, pleading with him to stay away from the dark side despite Ren's fury driving him to destroy Skywalker's vision.

Kylo Ren’s Destructive Weapon

Despite not being a Sith Lord, Kylo Ren converted to the dark side and adhered to Sith Order rituals, including tampering with a kyber crystal to offer sacrifice. While his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker's Sith persona, Darth Vader, bled the crystal from a blade he seized from Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a, Ren used the crystal from his weapon for the ritual. Ren's lightsaber burned out the first time it was used since the transformation of his crystal from blue to crimson caused harm.

Although the shattered kyber crystal could still be recovered, Ren altered the lightsaber's hilt by adding quillon exhausts to counterbalance the crystal's energy because of how destructively much power it created. He consequently obtained a brand-new red-bladed crossguard lightsaber, which came to stand for his might and his contrast between good and evil.

Usage of Ren’s killer weapon

Ren used his lightsaber on several operations as a natural First Order Army leader, even though he held no formal position in the First Order military. Many of the Benathy were slain by Ren's lightsaber, including King Kristoff, and the remainder of their forces were forced to submit to the First Order champion after he slew the Zillo Beast, whom they worshipped as a god.

Ren was infamous within the First Order's ranks for his explosive and tumultuous personality, which led him to destroy everything around him with his lightsaber and destroy villages, in addition to defeating planets for the First Order.

Ren kept using his crossguard lightsaber even after the Starkiller fiasco. While directing the First Order's hunt for the Resistance and galactic conquest, Ren attempted to murder conspirators directly with his lightsaber.

As a warning to the rest of the galaxy that contact with the enemies of the First Order would not be allowed when the Resistance passed through Fondor's star system, Ren used his lightsaber to put a Fondor citizen to death. The Supreme Leader used his lightsaber to put people to death and engaged in combat with his forces, much as he had when Snoke trained him. With the help of Vader's Wayfinder, Ren could land on Exegol and make his path to the Sith Citadel with his lightsaber.

End Of Journey

The final fight between Kylo Ren and Rey

Kylo Ren uses this lightsaber throughout the Star Wars series until his fight with Rey on Kef Bir. In the pivotal moment of the battle, Leia utilizes the Force to have one last conversation with her son before Kylo disarms him and sets up the killing blow. Rey seizes the lightsaber that a dazed Kylo Ren is about to unhand and slams it into his chest, ending the fight.

Rey has already wielded Kylo Ren's lightsaber. During The Last Jedi, Rey, who is being held captive by Snoke, uses the Force to remove Kylo's saber from his hilt. When she fails, Kylo swiftly retrieves his weapon.

Redemption of Ben Solo

The stories that led Ren to locate Sidious encouraged Rey and her allies, Ren's adversaries who are Jedi. Kef Bir, the ocean moon of the Endor system, was the destination of their simultaneous missions and Force-bond. On Kef Bir, the location of the second Death Star's remains, the Emperor's Wayfinder, was discovered. Ren used his lightsaber, while Rey used the repaired Skywalker lightsaber as they engaged in a final fight on Kef Bir.

He was winning the battle, but Leia Organa, near death, summoned him through the Force, deflecting him and causing him to misplace his lightsaber. Rey seized the opportunity to grab his lightsaber and trick Ren, but before he could escape, he repaired his horrifying wound after sensing Organa's demise.

A memory that overcame Ren was that of his late father, Han Solo, who had spoken to him and urged his son to change, just as he had done when they had met on Starkiller Base. Thanks to the love of his parents and Rey's commitment to his recovery, Kylo Ren passed away, and Ben Solo was saved.

Ren's weapon was useless, so Solo threw the Sith red-bladed lightsaber into the distance, where Kef Bir's waters would submerge it.

Major Lightsaber Battles Of Kylo Ren

With so much screen time, Kylo Ren's unique crossguard lightsaber has produced some theatrical moments. Several of Kylo Ren's most significant lightsaber battles include the following:

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Lightsaber Combat Between Kylo Ren and Finn

The First Order leader notices that Ren, in a snowy wilderness, approaches a furious Finn, who also holds the most mysterious lightsaber in the galaxy. Finn fights fiercely to defend Rey, even blocking a blow with a glance at one point, but Ren eventually knocks him out.

Lightsaber Combat Between Kylo Ren and Rey

After defeating Finn, Ren tries to retrieve the abandoned Luke Skywalker lightsaber, only to have it fly into Rey's hand. There's a heated lightsaber duel between the two. Rey is forced farther into the woods and nearer the brink of a cliff by Ren, who quickly places her on the safeguard. However, Rey uses the Force to retaliate. He is severely injured as she disbands him and hits him in the face. Ren will never forget his first defeat in the lightsaber fight.

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Praetorian guards versus Kylo Ren and Rey

After using a lightsaber to haunt Supreme Leader Snoke, Ren quickly joins Rey to repel the Elite Praetorian Guards, who have just seen the summary of their leader's assassination. Ren is killing it here, dispatching multiple guards at once, but he needs Rey's assistance after misplacing his crossguard weapon.

Kylo Ren Versus Luke Skywalker

At the Battle of Crait, Kylo Ren finally gets to take against his uncle, Luke Skywalker. The subsequent battle, which occurs on a sleek, salted plain, is abruptly ended when Ren charges quickly with his lightsaber and cuts through Luke, who turns out to be a projected clone meant to deceive the First Order and let the Resistance escape.

In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Kylo Ren Versus Rey

In an unusual Force-related duel in which both participants are physically separated, Kylo Ren (wearing a mask) engages Rey in combat. Ren undoubtedly has the better of the fight, deftly dodging Rey's blows and seizing the opportunity to play a game of psychological tricks on his opponent by forcing her to face some horrific truths about her past.

Kylo Ren Versus Rey (on Second Death Star)

Amidst the partially submerged remnants of the second Death Star, Ren dodges Rey's slicing lightsaber by bobbling and weaving before turning on his own. They engage in a furious battle in which both warriors use the Force to execute incredible leaps and blocks. Ren is ahead against a visibly exhausted Rey, but he is sidetracked by his mother, Leia Organa's thoughts, losing the battle and almost his life. It turns out that this is the last time he will ever fight as Kylo Ren.

Knights Of Ren Versus Kylo Ren

Ren, who is Ben Solo and has recently come to terms with his true identity, is assaulted in the Sith Citadel by his former friends, the Knights of Ren while searching for Rey. Ben Solo is given a few blows to the body and a blaster before Rey gives him the renowned Skywalker lightsaber. He then destroys the Knights, even showcasing some impressive acrobatic abilities.

Lightsaber Fighting Style Of Kylo Ren

Which of the seven traditional light-saber fighting forms was used by Kylo Ren? even when the data isn't definitive?

Form V: Djem So

It is most likely that he adhered to Form V, specifically the Djem So variation. Like Luke and Anakin, Kylo made heavy use of Form 5. He uses his strength to overpower his opponents with powerful overhead strikes, a Djem So staple. Djem is a highly violent form that depends on the user's strength to overcome opponents' defenses and deflect their attacks into more potent and lethal attacks.

Ren's brutal fighting style is similar to Djem So's, requiring great power and speed to execute a flurry of attacks and counterattacks. The Form V master's skillful parrying of blaster fire is another one of his traits.

Form IV: Ataru

Now and again, he would pull off acrobatic moves reminiscent of form 5 Ataru. He performed acrobatics to strengthen his fighting stance and circular motions to attack from unexpected angles. Another aspect of Ataru that Kylo Ren incorporates into his combat style is his continual use of physical force.

Form VI: Niman

Form 6 Niman was Kylo's most recent primary style. It was not his most common or the foundation of his offensive or defensive. Still, it was a form in which he showed a high level of proficiency and integrated elements into his overall combat style. Ren sometimes employed tactics that were more commonly associated with other styles. For instance, he employed the Niman practitioner's technique to push or drag opponents into positions where strikes could be delivered more efficiently. In this method, Kylo also demonstrated the use of Jar'Kai, a dual blade. Kylo demonstrated this during the Praetorian Guard battle by going up against Ren and using a special Jar'Kai.

Ren, though, was probably a disciple of Djem So. That makes sense, considering that his uncle, Jedi master Luke Skywalker, a well-known Djem So practitioner, taught him how to fight when he was a young Jedi student.

FAQs

Why is Kylo Ren’s lightsaber unstable?

One particular feature sets Kylo Ren's lightsaber apart. The crossguard lightsaber that Kylo Ren is wielding is a centuries-old design that dates back to the Great Scourge of Malachor. The lightsaber is powered by a malfunctioning kyber crystal, which results in an oddly "ragged" blade.

To put it briefly, Kylo Ren's lightsaber is an old style that is unstable due to a broken or cracked crystal.

What is KYLO Ren’s lightsaber called?

"The crossguard lightsaber" is the common name for Kylo Ren's lightsaber. The crossguard lightsaber that Kylo Ren is wielding is a centuries-old design that dates back to the Great Scourge of Malachor. The lightsaber's plasma stream is divided into three channels by focusing crystal activators, producing the crossguard blades, sometimes called quillons. The crossguard blades emerge after the primary blade ignites. The lightsaber is powered by a malfunctioning kyber crystal, which results in an oddly "ragged" blade.

Is Kylo Ren’s lightsaber Darth Vader’s?

The lightsaber used by Kylo Ren was unique and uninspired by Darth Vader's lightsaber. His blade was unsteady and radiating so much heat that he had to create lateral vents on either side of the handle to divert it from the gem, unlike the Dark Lord's regular, steady red blade. This resulted from the broken kyber crystal.

Why did Kylo Ren use a cracked kyber crystal?

Kylo Ren's lightsaber was a physical representation of his internal conflict. Although Kylo Ren allowed his kyber crystal to bleed to get its distinctive color, this rarely led to a gem becoming broken. This resulted from Kylo Ren's inner turmoil as he was crafting his Sith weapon; even though he maintained that he had come to terms with the dark side of the force, there was always a glimmer of hope within. Ren had to work twice as hard to convince himself that this was the right path because he was never truly sure.

His inner struggle caused his kyber crystal to shatter, expressing his true feelings. His unsteady lightsaber was a physical representation of his character and a metaphor. He needed guidance and was confused and insecure.

How did Kylo Ren get his lightsaber?
