Jedi Guardians: Blue Lightsaber Lore
"A sophisticated weapon for a more civilized era. "Obi-Wan Kenobi
One of the most iconic and well-known blades in Star Wars is the blue lightsaber. Initially, they appeared next to red lightsabers to provide a visual contrast between light and dark. This hue, which the Jedi Guardians wield, represents their unshakable commitment to justice, discipline, and lightsaber fighting proficiency. Jedi Guardians emphasize being prepared for conflict, frequently assuming the roles of warriors and guardians, while other Jedi paths place more importance on education or diplomacy.
The blue Star Wars lightsaber has long been the color most frequently connected to Jedi Knights, in contrast to several uncommon lightsaber hues. It represents their strong bond with the Force and commitment to protecting the defenseless. Early Jedi fighters who aimed to keep the galaxy peaceful wielded the first known blue lightsabers, which date back thousands of years.
Initially used by Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, the most well-known blue lightsaber eventually ended up in Luke's possession. It has since been handed down to several Jedis. For those who oppose the Dark Side, its vivid azure radiance has turned into a ray of hope. The rich history of blue sabers and the Jedi Guardians who have used them in this distant galaxy will thereafter be examined.
Who Are The Jedi Guardians?
The Jedi who most frequently carried a blue lightsaber to symbolize their skill in battle and dedication to justice are known as the Guardians. These Jedi dedicated their lives to fighting and martial training, honing their craft in the art of war. Consequently, out of the three Jedi classes, these Jedi participated in the most fighting. The Guardian class has multiple levels, but the most proficient are called Warrior Masters. According to non-canon Legends (previously the Expanded Universe) history, the Jedi Temple on Coruscant was founded by two blue lightsaber-wielding Warrior Masters and two green lightsaber-wielding Sage Masters.
The following career paths were among the Jedi Guardian's sub-branches:
- Specialists in Exotic Weapons: These Jedi were a little unconventional; they used weapons other than the single-bladed lightsaber in combat. Experts in exotic weapons employed blasters, flails, whips, lightsaber pikes, and double-bladed lightsabers. There were very few specialists, a vocation that was uncommon among the Guardians.
- Lightsaber Instructor: Teachers were essential to the Jedi Order's continued prosperity. Jedi Battle masters selected these instructors, who were in charge of Jedi Initiates' instruction at the Temple. This combat-tested commander would suggest possible teachers for nomination to the Jedi High Council.
- Jedi Ace: Master pilots and aces were part of the Jedi Starfighter Corps organization. These were the people who could fly a lot of Starfighter models in the hangar of the Order. Their accuracy and precision considerably outstripped that of any average pilot because they were Force-sensitive pilots.
- Jedi Peacekeepers: Known as the Jedi police force, these experts would go to great lengths to defend virtue and defeat evil, even on the Outer Rim. These officers maintained peace throughout the galaxy by collaborating with local militias and Sector police. The most well-known subset of the Guardian class is peacekeepers.
Why Are Some Lightsabers Blue?
The most popular crystal to utilize while creating a lightsaber is the kyber crystal. A blue crystal is initially colorless, just like all other cyber crystals, until it forms a bond with a Jedi. Certain Jedi qualities, such as discipline, bravery, and fighting proficiency, are reflected in the crystal when it is attuned. The Jedi Guardians share several characteristics with the blue kyber crystals used to make blue sabers.
Rare canon and non-canon crystals can also create a blue Jedi lightsaber in addition to conventional kyber crystals, frequently bestowing special powers beyond its eye-catching hue:
Antares Crystal
This crystal, also called the Ankarres Sapphire, had many other properties in addition to its healing abilities. Among the most powerful crystals utilized to create lightsabers were Antares crystals. It is said across the galaxy that it can only be used by beings attuned to the Light Side of the Force. The temperature would escalate and burn the wielder's hand if the lightsaber or crystal came into contact with a Dark Sider.
Mantle of the Force
The Mantle of the Force radiated a distinctive bluish-cyan glow, making it one of the rarest and most potent crystals for Star Wars blue sabers. Suvam Tan, a merchant in Star Wars Legends, rediscovered it and sold it to Revan. When placed within a lightsaber, this stone may intensify the effects of other kyber crystals, Revan realized. Together, they enhanced the saber's energy and increased Revan's bond with the Force.
Permafrost
The ice planet of Hoth is where this crystal can be gathered, in case the frosty name didn't tell you. It emits an icy blue tint when used in a lightsaber. The Permafrost crystal was transformed into a focusing crystal that could only be utilized in lightsabers made by the Force-sensitive being who tuned it. The legend surrounding Star Wars' blue lightsabers and the close bond between a Jedi and their blade is further enhanced by this uncommon addition to the Jedi Guardian armament.
